Celebrity Hoverboard Videos

This article is just a compilation of some of the many videos available online of celebrities on their hoverboard scooters. Most of these are really short (less than 30 secs) so it won’t take long if you want to check them out.

Cheryl Fernandez Versini (UK X factor judge) was spotted tentatively trying the two wheel self balancing scooter backstage. She looked a bit nervous but Nick Grimshaw (UK DJ and X Factor Judge) was on hand to help her off it. Full story on the Daily Mail.

Justin Bieber and his friends don’t walk around the mall – they ride on IO Hawks!

Here’s another video of Justin and his friends on their 2 wheel scooters playing with Nerf guns and riding around his house in LA. It’s fair to say that they are a bit obsessed with his IO Hawk!

Jessica Alba’s husband Cash Warren spotted riding an IO Hawk in Malibu, California on 4th July.

Chris Brown showing us that this scooter’s not just for riding – you can dance too. He’s got the moves!

Jamie Foxx and Jimmy Fallon try out the 2 wheel electric scooter on the Tonight Show.

Kendall Jenner glides around the house on her scooter but has a little accident at the end of this video!

Footballer Karim Benzema is also a fan of the swegway.

Kourtney Kardashian is a cool mom as she rides around the house on a white mini Segway.

A great way to use the self balancing scooter – to do your shopping. Wiz Khalifa shows us how its done as he speeds around the store with his trolley.

As you can see, this is definitely the celebrities ‘toy’ of choice. Although celebrities love the more expensive brands IO Hawk and Phunkeeduck there are plenty of cheaper options on the market that do the same thing, so don’t be put off by the price.

For around $400-500 you too can look ‘cool’ and show off by posting videos of yourself riding your two wheel self balancing electric scooter on Youtube and Instagram! Check out some of our reviews here on this site to see which one is best for you.

Swagtron T1 Vs T3 – Which Should You Choose?

Right now, one of the ONLY UL certified self-balancing scooters on the market is the Swagway Swagtron, and it comes in two different models, the T1 and the T3. If you haven’t jumped on the hoverboard bandwagon yet, now’s a great time to get one.

The next generation hoverboards that are available right now are stronger, more durable, better quality, and most importantly of all, they’re safer!

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN PURCHASING A HOVERBOARD

Before we really dive into the two Swagtron models below, we should first discuss what you should be considering as you choose your hoverboard. This is important for both beginners and experts with a bit more experience.

First of all, always be aware of where you are buying the device from. At the end of 2015, many online sites, Amazon included, actually pulled most hoverboard models from all third-party sellers due to safety concerns.

Next, you will want to ensure the hoverboard you choose is of good quality and performance. Compare the models from each year, and you will find that they continue to get better as we move into the future of hoverboards. Many are becoming UL Certified, smartphone apps are being launched, and the batteries and control systems of the newer hoverboards are improving and are able to meet the UL standard.

WHAT IS A UL CERTIFICATION?

UL is just one of several companies focused on safety and safety testing. The safety testing for UL Certification is performed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Having a UL Certification is important because it means that the product- in this case, a hoverboard- has gone through safety testing and has been assessed against UL requirements and has been found to be safe for consumers.

Now let’s get into taking a closer look at two hoverboard models from a few years ago.

In this article, we’re going to look at the Swagtron T1 vs. T3 so that you can see the differences for yourself and decide which one is right for you. First of all, let’s look at some of the features that are common to both:

SWAGWAY SWAGTRON HOVERBOARD FEATURES

The following are some of the features of BOTH models:

  • UL 2272 certification – this is a big step forward for the hoverboard industry. Newer models that have this certification are safe. No more fires or battery explosions!
  • Hard plastic, nonflammable, outer body casing
  • Patented Sentry Shield multilayer battery protection – the battery is encased in a fireproof chamber for added protection
  • Different riding modes – learners’ mode for when you’re getting started and more advanced modes for when your more confident and want to reach top speeds.
  • Bright LED lights
  • Both of the models use the same gyroscopic technology to steer and move forward and in reverse. They are also both relatively easy to control
  • These two models are both equipped with rubber bumpers to help prevent any damage from occurring on the outside of the hoverboard while it is in use

SWAGTRON T1 VS T3 – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

Now let’s take a look at some of the differences between the Swagtron T1 model and the swagtron t3 model. Upon a quick look, both models definitely appear very similar to each other. They both share the same weight range and maximum load weights, for example.

But as you start to dissect the two to find the differences, you will discover that the newer model, the T3, is actually equipped with a few more features than its older brother, the T1.

Availability

The Swagtron T1 hoverboard was released on May 31st, 2016 and is for sale on many of the top online marketplaces. This is the only self-balancing scooter available on the official website, eBay, Best Buy and many other stores.

The swagtron t3 was released on July 1st and is usually available on Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, Modells and others.

The T1 is very similar in design to the first generation hoverboards that were on sale in 2015 – it does, however, feature better quality, harder ABS casing to minimize scratching and damage to the outer body and better non-slip foot pads for safer riding. It comes in 6 colors – white, black, blue, dark red, gold and pink.

The T3 has a completely unique look that you won’t find anywhere else. A new design feature is the built-in carry strap made from durable fabric; this makes it much easier to carry your hoverboard around when not in use.

Features

Here I’m just going to discuss the extra features of the swagtron t3 – these are NOT available with the T1.

  • Built-in Bluetooth speakers – this is one of the only Bluetooth hoverboards on the market at the moment with UL 2272 certification. Sync the hoverboard up with your mobile device, and you can listen to your favorite music while riding your two-wheeled scooter.
  • Built-in carrying strap underneath the board for easier transportation and convenience
  • The Swagtron App – monitor your battery status, track route history, or contact customer service through the mobile app now available with the T3 model.
  • The T1 only has two riding modes (learning mode and standard mode) whereas you get three riding modes with the T3 – learning mode, standard mode and advanced.

Price

The Swagtron T1 is priced around the 0 mark while the swagtron t3 model price hovers around the 0 mark. However, the extra money you pay will buy you the amazing additional features we just described.

SO, WHICH SHOULD I BUY?

As you can see, the Swagtron T1 is the standard hoverboard model. This is for you if you just want a good quality, affordable hoverboard without any of the bells and whistles. Most people will opt for this one just because they won’t need any of the extras that the T3 offers, so why pay the extra $100?

The Swagtron T1 is a suitable hoverboard choice for all ages (bearing in mind the height and weight requirements), but we think this will definitely be very popular with the majority of hoverboard buyers, especially parents buying for their kids.

The T3 is for advanced two-wheeled scooter users, those looking for something a bit extra. Built-in Bluetooth, built-in speaker, an expert riding mode (as well as the learning mode and standard modes), an app and the built-in carry strap make this the most advanced UL certified hoverboard on the market right now. At its higher price point, it’s approximately $100 more than the T1, but that won’t deter those who want the extra features.

Also, it’s still a very good price for safety because many of the more expensive models (that cost $1000+) haven’t yet been UL approved and do not always hold a UL Certification.

Who needs an IO Hawk or Phunkeeduck when you can get a Swagtron!

The operations of a hover board are very easy, but I’m sure with all this high tech talk and descriptions it may look confusing. Basically, there are two separate motors housed within the wheels of the hoverboard, and two sensors (one under each foot pad) that detect the micro-movements in your feet and ankles, relay information to the motors. Just point your toes down to go forward, and put your weight into your heels to go backwards. Simple as that! I hope all this information helped you make a decisive decision for your loved one, or for yourself. There’s no shame in treating yourself for the holidays.

Cheers!

More Than 500,000 Hoverboards Being Recalled Due To Fire Safety Risk

It was hinted last month that there would be some big news in early July with regards to the hoverboard industry. That news has now been revealed. Over half a million self balancing scooters are being recalled due to being a fire safety hazard by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The lithium ion battery packs in scooters can easily overheat, causing smoking, sparking, fires or even explosions. Hoverboard fires have caused as much as $2 million dollars worth of property damage and burns injuries to users in 99 reported incidents.

Hoverboards sold online between June 2015 and May 2016 are affected, and they cost in the range of approximately $300-$900. 10 companies are involved in this recall, including major US brands Swagway (Swagway X1), Razor (Hovertrax) and Hoverboard LLC (Powerboard). NO hoverboard sold in this time was safe and consumers are urged to stop using their products immediately. Depending on the model you may be able to get a refund, repair or replacement.

The ONLY safe hoverboards are those that have been certified by UL (Underwriter Laboratories), with a new hoverboard specific certification called UL 2272. Only a handful of hoverboards have actually received this UL approval so far, Swagway’s T1 and T3 being 2 such models. Also the Ninebot by Segway MiniPRO. The CPSC advises only purchasing hoverboards that have been certified as safe by UL. Unfortunately this certification has come too late for many buyers.

Check if your hoverboard is on the recall list and see what to do next.

The biggest brand name affected by the recall is the popular Swagway – they are offering a repair or credit towards their new UL certified SwagTron model to anyone who purchased a Swagway X1 between September 2015 and March 2016. Swagway’s purchased after March 2016 are NOT affected as they contain UL certified battery packs.

What Does A Flashing Red Light Mean?

Let us take a look at an imaginary scenario: We are driving maddeningly fast, sneakingly peeking at our watch while trying to concetrate on the road. We are late, and we have to hurry. And boom! A safety sign stops us. We curse. We are now gonna be late. If this thought process sounds familiar, be at ease, road warrior. You are not the only one to get annoyed at traffic and safety signs. In fact, we have all felt like that at one point or another in our lives.

What is vital to realize, however, is that those understandable feelings – nobody wants to be late on their dates or appointments – should never carry over in our lives after the moment has passed. Driving, apparently, has never been more dangerous than it is nowadays. According to data, there has been a notable increase in car accidents over the past few years. Paying our respects to driving laws and regulations, along with having a thorough knowledge and understanding of the various traffic and safety signs is a necessity in order to stay safe.

And it all begins with learning how to recognise the traffic lights.

COMMON STEADY TRAFFIC LIGHTS

As annoying as they may often be, traffic lights are the very things that will keep you safe and unharmed on the road, whether you are driving or walking on the road. We will start by reviewing the most common steady traffic lights:

  • Green Steady Light: A green light signifies that you are able to turn left, go straight or turn right after first yielding to vehicles and passengers already in the interection. When turning left or right, you must yield the right of way to pedestrians crossing the intersection.
  • Yellow Steady Light: A steady yellow light urges caution – the light will soon turn red. If you cannot safely stop, you should proceed carefully through the intersection before it turns red. If capable, you should stop.
  • Red Steady Light: When approaching an intersection, you have to stop before the pedestrian crosswalk. You must bring your vehicle to a complete stop right before the stop line. If no stop line is marked on the road, you have to stop at the crosswalk regardless. You are clear to move when the light changes back to green.
  • In cases where a steady green arrow appears simultaneously with a steady red light, you are free to proceed towards the direction the arrow is pointing at, after first yielding to pedestrians and drivers that have the right of way.

FLASHING LIGHTS

Other than the aforementioned steady lights, you will also encounter their flashing light counterparts. Generally, the flash encourages extra caution from the driver’s part. Again, these are divided by color. Each color has a different meaning:

  • Green Flashing Light: The driver is obligated to approach in a way that allows for a timely stop, should a stop be necessary before they reach the crosswalk or the light signal. They are  then required to yield to passing pedesrians.
  • Yellow Flashing Light: A driver facing a yellow flashing light has to enter the intersection or pass the signal only with caution, yielding to pedestrians along the way.
  • In both cases, pedestrians can only cross the crosswalk in the same manner they would if the signals were of a flashing red light.

THE RED FLASHING LIGHT MEANING

And now comes the red flashing light’s thorough explanation, the focus of this article. What are you supposed to do when faced with a flashing red light? The answer depends heavily on where you live.

When it comes to the United States, you should treat a flashing red light exactly the same way as if it were a stop sign. A stop sign is used to control conflicting traffic movements at intersections. Whenever you see a stop sign at any corner or intersection, you MUST stop and proceed only if the way ahead is completely clear, and only after obeying any rules and laws regarding right of way.

Whether you are faced with a red flashing light or a stop sign, you must come to a complete stop. You are only eligible to move through the intersection after it is completely safe to do so. If it is a 4-way flashing red, you should allow the first vehicle to enter the intersection go first. If you have both reached the intersection at the same time, you have to yield to the right most vehicle and rotate to the left each time.

You should also take note, that in cases were there is ongoing road work, sometimes the signals are made to flash red. Alternatively, they are turned off and flaggers are placed at the intersections. In these cases, you should abide by the provided instructions of said flaggers.

CONCLUSION

To summarize, driving on the road takes a lot of responsibility. Even though it may seem bothersome and tiring, you would do well to study and learn all the laws, rules and regulations of the road, as well as learn how to recognise and interpret the various traffic signs and lights. This mental exercise will keep you safe when driving and, perhaps even more importantly, will minimize chances of you accidentally hitting others by mistake or lack of knowledge.

The most common traffic lights can be divided by two different criteria. First, by their color – green, yellow and red. And second, by the way they appear: Steady or flashing. One of the most important lights for an aspiring driver to learn how to recognise is the red flashing light.

A red flashing light is, essentially, the traffic light equivalent of the stop sign. Whenever you encounter a red flashing light on the road, you are obligated to come to a complete stop. You are only allowed to proceed when the way ahead is completely clear, and moving forward is completely safe. Failing to do so is not only dangerous but also highly irresponsible.
